Mouth and Throat ProblemsA common throat problem is drying out of the throat due to breathing compressed air. This is relatively easily treated afterwards. Mouth problems include teeth so divers must look after thier teeth. If a cavity is obstructed by food the tooth may collapse on descent or if air leaked into an ill fitting filling, the tooth may explode on ascent. This is very painful. A dental bridge must fit well of it may be swallowed when kicked by somebody else’s fin. Diving with dentures should only be permitted if the diver can keep the mouthpiece between his lips and gums.
